501(c)(3)
Q. Why does the SRC perform in nursing homes, Baker Park, etc.?
A. The SRC feels it is important for our students to give back to the community in which they live in the best way they know how, acting and dancing. It’s a great way to give something of themselves for the sake of giving and our students enjoy doing it. SRC feels this is an important character-building lesson. Also, part of the requirements of being a 501c3 tax exempt, non-profit corporation is to provide some community service activity.
Board of Directors
Q. How is one elected to the SRC Board of Directors?
A. An e-mail is sent out to all SRC parents/guardians indicating that nominations will be accepted for open positions on the Board and to send your nominations (you can nominate yourself) to the Nominations Chair. Board seats are held for two-year terms. The election is held every two years at the Annual Board Meeting and nominations are also accepted from the floor at that meeting. The sitting Board elects the new Board, as prescribed in the 24/7 SRC By-Laws. The Board may consist of no more than 15 members.
Q. Can we see a copy of the budget?
A. Yes. The budget can be found on the SRC website.
Q. Can I see a copy of the SRC Board Minutes?
A. Yes. Approved minutes are e-mailed to all SRC parents/guardians.
Q. Is it possible for me to speak at a Board meeting?
A. If you are not able to receive a satisfactory answer to your question/concern from your parent liaison, e-mail your liaison a request to speak with the Board, outlining the specific subject you would like to discuss. The Board will then get back to you with a meeting date.
Parent Liaison
Q. How do I get my concerns about SRC to the Board?
A. The Dance Fusion and Young Professionals parent liaisons are there just for that purpose. You can e-mail, write or call them. They will bring your concerns to the Board for discussion.
Q. Should I always go through the Parent Liaison before speaking to the Director with a concern?
A. Not necessarily. If your concern is of a personal nature or concern for your child's welfare, go directly to the Director. If your question is of a monetary nature, go directly to the 24/7 SRC Treasurer. If your question is about volunteer hours go to the Volunteer Chairperson. If you have a concern you about a Director or general/specific question, go to the parent liaison. If you are not sure who to go to, go to the parent liaison for direction.
Dues/Payments
Q. To whom do I give my dues payments?
A. Payments go directly to the 24/7 SRC Treasurer. They can be mailed or hand-delivered to the 24/7 Dance Studio front desk. The front desk staff will ensure that payments are forwarded to the SRC Treasurer. No payments are to be given to the Directors or other 24/7 SRC Board members.
Volunteer Hours/Volunteer/Fundraisers/Sponsorships
Q. What counts as Volunteer hours?
A. Any approved hours put into a production or fundraiser--i.e., ushering, concession stand, building/painting sets, working backstage during a production, working on a committee, folding programs, selling backstage gifts/flowers during a performance, working at bingo or other fundraisers--counts as volunteer hours. Check with the Volunteer Committee chair for assignments (see website for name and e-mail address).
Q. Who do I go to with questions regarding my volunteer hours?
A. Parents/guardians should contact the Volunteer Chairperson (see website for name and e-mail address) to check on volunteer hours.
Q. Are all the jobs listed for an event?
A. Volunteer jobs for events are always posted. However, there are some volunteer jobs that require prior experience and those jobs are filled by persons selected by the Directors. If you think something is missing from the list, please contact the Volunteer Chairperson (see website for name and e-mail address).
Q. Who can I speak to about Fundraisers?
A. Contact the Fundraiser Chairperson (see website for name and e-mail address). We are always open to doing other fundraisers and look to our parents for ideas.
Q. Where does the money go that is raised by the fundraisers and sponsorships?
A. Monies raised from fundraising and sponsorships goes directly back into supporting 24/7 SRC, i.e., provide a year-end trip for the students by either paying for transportation to an event or paying for the event itself, providing student scholarships, paying for costumes that SRC keeps for future performances, production venue costs, sets, ensuring fundraising is self-supporting.
Q. To whom do I speak regarding Sponsorships?
A. You need to speak to the Sponsorship Chairperson (see website for name and e-mail address).
Q. Why is Basket Bingo a fundraiser each year?
A. Basket Bingo has been a terrific fundraiser for 24/7 SRC and one the community looks forward to.
Performances/Schedules
Q. How are schedule changes handled?
A. Schedules are made during the summer months. However, a statement is made in the 24/7 SRC Student Handbook and at the first parent meeting (held in September) that these dates are subject to changes. Many times schedule changes are needed in order to reserve the appropriate venue for the performance and we must work within the schedule of those venues. Rehearsal dates may need to be changed/extended due to inclement weather, illness of the Director, or just to ensure that the students are ready for their performance. We try to stay within the schedules posted, but that is not always possible and we always ask for and appreciate your understanding when scheduling needs to be changed.
Excused/Unexcused Absences/Conflicts
Q. What is the policy regarding excused absences and illnesses?
A. The policy for all absences is outlined in the 24/7 SRC Handbook and are discussed at parent meetings. If you do not have a Handbook or have misplaced it, please ask your parent liaison for a copy.
Q. What do we do if a conflict comes up that we did not list when we auditioned or is the result of a change in schedule by the director?
A. Conflicts are to be written in the Dance Fusion and Young Professionals respective Conflict Book which can be found at the 24/7 Dance Studio (Frederick and Hagerstown) front desk.
Company/Camps
Q. If my child joins company for the first time in the fall, do they have to do a summer camp the summer before?
A. No. Summer camps are required for returning students.
Dance Lessons/Theatre Classes
Q. If my child already dances at another studio, does that count toward their mandatory dance class?
A. That should be discussed with the Dance Fusion Director to determine if the dance classes taken are appropriate.
Q. Does a theatre/dance class in school count as the required acting/dance class?
A. No. Acting/dance classes must be taken at approved acting/dance schools. Under specific circumstances an exception may be made upon the discretion of the respective Director.
Tech Week
Q. What does “Tech Week” involve?
A. Tech week involves a "load-in" where all the props and sets are taken to the theater and assembled and painted by volunteers. Parents and students (16 years or older) are encouraged to help with load-in (it’s a great way to accumulate volunteer hours). Students 12-15 years old may help but their assistance does not count toward volunteer hours. The next several days are dedicated to rehearsing the show with props, set, costumes, lighting, and sound. A typical Tech Week is:
Load-In, Sunday,1:00-8:00PM
Rehearsals, Monday-Thursday, 4:30-9:00PM each evening
Shows, Friday--7:00PM, Saturday-- 2:00PM and 7:00PM.*
Break-down of sets, after last show on Saturday (also counts toward volunteer hours)
*Please note that show times can vary, depending on the production.
Q. Do I have to make up missed classes during Tech Week?
A. Yes. During the year, all SRC members are required to attend several mandatory classes for technique purposes. If a mandatory class is missed for ANY reason, it needs to be made up. Please remember that students have a grace window of three allowed absences, so, with careful planning, excessive make ups can be avoided. Making up missed mandatory classes allows students to continue their eligibility in the SRC.
Miscellaneous
Q. Why don't we do more performances in Hagerstown?
A. We find we have a greater audience if we make most of our performances more centrally located in a Frederick venue.
Q. Will SRC be doing more within the community?
A. We try to fit community events into the students activities. Some of those activities include the Baker Park Spring Event, at least one show at an assisted living facility, and one or two others during the year. However, our students’ rehearsals, dance/theatre classes and shows take up a lot of their time and we try to balance this with their need for some "off" time for their other activities and interests.
